Art Therapy
Helping children express their emotions through art.

What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy offers a way to explore and express difficult thoughts and feelings. It is a form of emotional support that can be helpful to people who are struggling with difficult and challenging situations.
It involves using visual art materials with a trained art therapist to create pictures or objects that have personal meanings. It may help release bottled up emotions, and give new understanding and perspectives.

Art therapy is not about creating a fantastic piece of art. You don’t need to be able to draw or paint.

Over time, I have become increasingly aware of the potential art therapy provides in building self-esteem in students given the non-threatening, non-verbal aspect of the subject. The art provides a means of achieving success, in addition to gaining mastery over new skills, techniques and processes.
As the therapist, I sit alongside the child throughout the session allowing a new trusting alliance to develop which enables the child to work towards unravelling their emotional blocks to success in their lives.

Art therapy can be used to assist children with a number of concerns...
Behaviour difficulties
Parental bereavement
Coping and understanding learning difficulties
Physical disability or illness
Social, peer, communication, speech and language difficulties
Children who have suffered abuse, bullying or trauma
Experiencing emotional difficulties
Struggling with social communication
Child protection issues and concerns including experience of abuse or exposure to domestic violence
Autism spectrum disorders
Children who are refugees or are seeking asylum
